The Bitter Truth... Sianz!

In 1st quarter this year, some 13,000 Singaporeans lost their job due to the current economic downturn. This figure is far cry from experts’ prediction and more are expected to share the same fate. This is scary!

With the high living standard here, how do one survive without a job? How long can the compensation money received from retrenchment last? The most important question is – How soon can one get a new job? Everybody is competing & struggling for jobs.

For single, maybe being jobless for a while does not leave much impact on their daily expenses & needs. But for those with family, especially a sole-breadwinner, imagine their distress.

Last night, Acid & I were talking about the number of foreign workers here. Let’s put aside domestic, construction & professional foreign talents. Have you seen foreign workers in coffeeshops, supermarkets, shopping centres and even government organizations? The jobs they did can be done by local talents eg. admin jobs. Why hired them? What is lacking with us? The reason is easy - these foreigners are cheap labour. They are willing to be paid less than us. Basket! Haizz... Don’t want to write about it. Heart pain sey...

The work permit & employment pass department should look into this matter. Save our people first. There’s a say in Malay – Monyet di hutan disusukan, anak di rumah mati kelaparan. Translate?? Ermm... Never mind la coz I don’t know the translation. Hehehe...

Let’s hope the economy will pick up again by end of this year. Otherwise, unemployment rate will keep rising, forcing many people to fall into misery. But the most frightening truth is crime rate will also increase.
